I Built an “INFINITE” Pattern in Dominoes!

Using dominoes (and triominos!) to demonstrate how mathematical fractals work! In this video, I built and toppled a Sierpiński triangle using 4,800 dominoes! Built over the course of 6 days, this color changing domino setup reveals how the same pattern of triangles repeats at smaller and smaller scales as more triangles are removed. Special thanks to Peter Winkler, Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science at Dartmouth College, for inspiring this build and helping us understand fractals in a fun, new light! And thank you to the Independent Media Initiative for making this video possible! I'm proud to be representing New Hampshire for 50x50 Science Across America! Check out the other creators' videos at @50x50Science. 50x50: Science Across America is a national series uncovering exceptional science in all 50 states. It is a production of the Independent Media Initiative in collaboration with HHMI Tangled Bank Studios, Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, and the Winn Family Foundation. Hi there! My name is Lily Hevesh, also known as “Hevesh5.” As a Domino Artist, I design, build, and topple thousands of dominoes to create beautifully intricate chain reactions. I’ve been fortunate to be able to create Domino Art full-time, and do commercial projects for Hollywood films, TV shows, and events.
