Episode Title: "Shéhérazade" de Nikolaï Rimski-Korsakov - Orchestre philharmonique de Strasbourg - ARTE Concert Episode Content: Shéhérazade, composée en 1888 par Nikolaï Rimski-Korsakov, est l'une des œuvres les plus populaires du répertoire russe. Sous la baguette d'Aziz Shokhakimov, l'Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg interprète cette suite symphonique inspirée des Mille et Une Nuits, invitant à un voyage enchanteur vers l'Orient. En 1888, Nikolaï Rimski-Korsakov, alors âgé de 44 ans, était une figure incontournable de Saint-Pétersbourg. Interrompant l’orchestration de l’opéra Le Prince Igorde son ami Borodine récemment décédé, le musicien écrivit rapidement Shéhérazade qui s’inscrit dans la culture orientale et prend racine dans les contes des Mille et Une Nuits. Trahi par sa femme, le sultan Schahriar veut épouser chaque soir une nouvelle jeune fille et la faire étrangler au petit matin pour se prémunir de toute infidélité. Pour échapper à cette malédiction, la belle Shéhérazade, fille du grand vizir, sauve sa vie en lui racontant un conte qui le captivera durant mille et une nuits jusqu’à ce qu’il renonce à son dessein. Shéhérazade est représentée par un violon solo accompagné de la harpe dont le récitatif tout en arabesques séductrices incarne la fascinante conteuse. La composition se base sur différents épisodes de cette histoire. Donnée à Paris en 1899 aux Concerts Lamoureux, la partition impressionne Debussy et Ravel qui s’en souviendront dans La Mer et Daphnis et Chloé. En 1910, Michel Fokine en fera un ballet, représenté par les Ballets russes de Diaghilev sur la scène du Palais Garnier, spectacle qui enthousiasme Marcel Proust et dont on retrouve l’écho dans À la recherche du temps perdu. Mouvements : 1. La mer et le vaisseau de Simbad (Largo e maestoso - Allegro non troppo) 2. Le récit du prince Kalender (Lento - Andantino - Allegro molto - Con moto) 3.
