Trenuleţul (English: ‘Train’) nods to the Ramone’s Blitzkrieg Bop with its infectious chorus of ‘Hey ho! Let’s go. Folklore and rock ‘n’ roll’, and showcases Zdob și Zdub’s love of traditional word-of-mouth storytelling. It’s fair to assume that there won’t be many artists on stage in Turin in May who are likely to have had as much performing experience as the Moldavian musicians, and not just because Zdob și Zdub themselves have graced Eurovision with their presence twice before. The band have been around since 1994, and in those 28 years since, have honed their skills at playing to a crowd by going out on the road for a near constant stream of gigs, tours and festival appearances.
