Joining Steve is Teya, Ralf Mackenbach, Ace Bowerman, Jorge Antonio Fujizaki and Melanie Wehbe. Teya represented Austria in 2023 with Who The Hell Is Edgar? and is now the creative director and co-writer for JJ’s entry Wasted Love. Ralf Mackenbach won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2009, but switched his career to his other passion… and is now a leading physicist! Creative director Ace Bowerman and choreographer Jorge Antonio Fujizaki are the brains behind the staging for this year’s United Kingdom and Azerbaijan entries. Melanie Wehbe has worked on four Eurovision Song Contest entries, including Sissal’s Hallucination, where she’s also a backing vocalist. Also joining Steve are two ‘Novartists’ - Gustavo Prack & Anisah Alyahya - who talk about balancing their careers at Novartis, with their passion for music. C’est en effet entre les murs de l’Observatoire de la Côte d’Azur, à Nice, que nous retrouvons le producteur electro. Belle à voir, magnifique à entendre… encore une session Passengers qui va nous envoyer directement au firmament des sessions musicales. C’est avec l’album Olympic – et notamment le sublime morceau "Diamond Veins", en featuring avec Sarah Rebecca – que French 79 a débarqué dans nos oreilles. On découvrait alors un univers aussi ambitieux que sensuel, posé sur des compositions electro-pop. Rêveur, dansant, retro… Olympic est un petit bijou d’éclectisme. Il faut dire que Simon Henner (son nom à la ville) est un touche-à-tout, comme le montre sa participation à Nasser et Husbands, deux groupes aux couleurs bien différentes. En plus de nous donner un aperçu de l'EP Angel, ce numéro de Passengers niçois offre également l'occasion de replonger dans l'album Joshua. Dans cet opus publié en 2019, French 79 nous fait voyager dans le temps, invoquant ses souvenirs d’adolescence. Irrigué par des sonorités des années 80 et 90, cet opus multiplie en effet les clins d’œil à Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream, Soft Machine ou encore les BO de Rencontres du troisième type et Blade Runner. Autant de sons ayant sculpté la sensibilité artistique de French 79. Concert enregistré le 7 mai 2021 dans l’Observatoire de la Côte d’Azur, Nice.
