Lorsqu'il était jeune, Johnny Cash passa une nuit en prison pour avoir… cueilli des fleurs dans le jardin d'une grand-mère. Malgré ce casier plutôt léger, "l'homme en noir" eut tout au long de sa carrière l'image d'un ex-taulard sublime et romantique, dur à cuire à la sensibilité à fleur de peau. Les concerts qu'il donna dans les prisons américaines (Folsom en 1968 et San Quentin un an plus tard), immortalisés par des albums live devenus cultes, agrémentèrent sa légende d'une aura sulfureuse – et permirent aussi à sa carrière de rebondir, en s'attachant l'estime des amateurs de country, de folk comme de rock. En 1976, l'icône à la voix caverneuse force à nouveau le verrou carcéral et se produit devant les détenus du pénitencier Tennessee de Nashville. Un tour de chant flamboyant qui lui permet de dérouler quelques-uns de ses plus fameux titres (dont "Folsom Prison Blues", "Hey Porter" ou "Wreck of the Old 97") devant ce si particulier – et attentif – public. Allerdings hat der Auftritt im Tennessee State Penitentiary mit den beiden Vorgängershows wenig gemein: Die Stimmung ist deutlich gedämpfter, wenngleich sich Cash bei den Openern wie „Sunday Morning Coming Down“ und „Jacob Green“ wie gewohnt mächtig ins Zeug legt. Weitere Acts sind die in vielen Musikgenres erfolgreiche Linda Ronstadt, Country-Gitarrist Roy Clark und – eher etwas fehl am Platz – der Anzug tragende 70er-Jahre-Komiker Foster Brooks. Ronstadt besticht mit sanftem Pop-Blues, und der geborene Entertainer Clark bringt die Häftlinge mit Country-Klassikern im Stil von „Orange Blossom Special“ zum Applaudieren. Was die schweren Jungs aber am meisten vom Hocker reißt, ist, wie könnte es anders sein, Johnny Cashs Finale mit „Sunday Morning Coming Down“, „Folsom Prison Blues“ – und natürlich dem berühmten, testosterongeladenen „Boy Named Sue“. Les Dublinois de Fontaines D.C. nous le démontrent sur le plateau d’Echoes with Jehnny Beth où ils défendent en live leur nouvel album : Hero's Death. Il ne fait pas forcément bon vivre en Irlande nous explique Fontaines D.C. : gentrification à Dublin, ravage de la drogue, hypocrisie des politiques… Les cinq musiciens ne passent rien à leurs compatriotes. Toute cette colère donne naissance à des morceaux à la fois électriques et désabusés. Un univers à la jonction d’Idles, de The Fall et des Pogues. Fontaines D.C. a su s’attirer les faveurs de Partisan Records (Idles, Cigarettes After Sex, The Black Angels…). En collaboration avec le label américain, le quintet a ainsi publié début 2019 l’album Dogrel. Cet opus est émaillé de jolies pépites rebelles, que le groupe a distillées en single sur plus de deux ans.L’an dernier, les petits gars de Fontaines D.C. ont ravi leurs fans avec un deuxièmes opus baptisé Hero's Death. A la fois plus apaisé et plus direct que son prédécesseur, c’est cet album que l’on découvre en compagnie de Jehnny Beth. ---------------------------------------------- In Irland ist das Leben nicht immer leicht. Fontaines D.C. nennt die Probleme geradeheraus: Gentrifizierung in Dublin, immer mehr Drogenabhängige, falschzüngige Politiker… die fünfköpfige Rockgruppe lässt sich kräftig über ihre Landsleute aus. Ihren Frust verarbeiten sie in schonungslos ehrlichen Songs, die sich in den energiegeladenen Stil bekannter Bands wie Idle, The Fall und des Pogues einschreiben. Fontaines D.C. konnten Partisan Records (Idles, Cigarettes After Sex, The Black Angel…) von ihrem Können überzeugen. Unter dem amerikanischen Plattenlabel veröffentlichten die fünf Musiker 2019 ihr Debütalbum „Dogrel“. Forts de ce nouvel élan, Marion Brunetto et ses acolytes publient le très beau Sémaphore. C’est avec la sortie du morceau « Déjà-vu » que Requin Chagrin amorce son grand retour dans nos oreilles. Cette chanson est en effet le premier extrait de l’album Bye Bye Baby, promis pour cette année. On attend beaucoup de choses de cet opus conçu en collaboration avec deux ingénieurs du son de renom : Chab (collaborateur de Daft Punk, Angèle, La Femme…) et Ash Workman (qui a lui travaillé avec Metronomy, Christine & the Queens, The Shoes…). Nachdem ihr gleichnamiges Debütalbum herauskam, unterschrieben sie einen Vertrag mit Nicola Sirkis' Label KMS Disques, wo sie mit neuer Motivation das wunderschöne Sémaphore veröffentlichten. Pablo s’entoure depuis ses débuts de femmes musiciennes qui l’accompagnent sur scène comme sur disque. Charles de Boisseguin, Flore Benguigui et leurs acolytes y déploient une session de toute beauté associant leurs tubes à des nouveautés extraites de leur nouvel album : Tako Tsubo. Mélopées rêveuses, orchestration éthérée et vibrations retro : L'Impératrice invite à l'indolence et à une insouciance généralisées. Ses arguments ? Une douce voix féminine et des sonorités vintage à souhait qui ravivent l'âge d'or de la French Touch, Daft Punk et Air en tête. Entre funk, space disco, revival 90's et influences tiki, la musique de L'Impératrice sonne familière tout en étant d'une grande fraîcheur.Après le succès de l’album Matahari (2018), L’Impératrice se rappelle à notre bon souvenir avec un tout nouvel album baptisé Tako Tsubo. Introduit par de nombreux singles – dont le très remarqué « La Peur des filles » - ce deuxième opus permet au groupe de montrer un visage plus éclectique mais toujours aussi dansant. Le changement dans la continuité en somme. En plus de la musique de L’Impératrice, ce Passengers permet de se pâmer devant la beauté de la nef du Grand Palais. Ce bijou de la Belle Epoque amorçant tout juste une mue devant durer plusieurs années, ce serait bête de s’en priver. Concert enregistré le 24 février 2021 au Grand Palais, Paris. ------------------------------------------------------ Für diese Ausgabe hat Passengers weder Kosten noch Mühen gescheut und empfängt L'Impératrice an keinem geringeren Ort als dem Hauptschiff des Grand Palais. In dieser Kulisse kommen Charles de Boisseguin, Flore Benguigui und ihre Mitmusiker zu einer wunderbaren Session zusammen, in der sich bekannte Hits zu neuen Songs aus ihrem neuen Album Tako Tsubo gesellen. Verträumter Gesang, sphärische Sounds und Retro-Vibrations: L'Impératrice liefern den Soundtrack zu allgemeinem Müßiggang und kollektiver Sorglosigkeit. Mittel der Wahl sind eine sanfte Frauenstimme und Vintage-Klänge, die an die Blütezeit des French Touch, Daft Punk und Air erinnern. Zwischen Funk, Space Disco, 90's-Revival und Tiki-Einflüssen klingt die Musik von L'Impératrice vertraut, ohne jemals langweilig zu werden. Nach dem Erfolg ihres Albums Matahari (2018) meldet sich die Formation nun mit dem neuen Album Tako Tsubo zurück. Auf diesem zweiten Opus, das mit zahlreichen Singleauskopplungen von sich hören lässt – unter anderem mit dem vielgelobten „La Peur des filles“ – zeigt sich die Band von einer anspruchsvolleren Seite, macht aber weiterhin tanzbare Songs. Im Großen und Ganzen also eine konsequente Veränderung. Neben der Musik von L'Impératrice begeistert diese Ausgabe von Passengers auch durch die Schönheit des Hauptschiffs des Grand Palais. Pour cette deuxième édition, c’est au Théâtre de l’Epée de bois que nous mettons le piano dans tous ses états. Pop, jazz, classique… Il y en a pour tous les goûts ! Encore une fois en effet, nous vous avons mitonné une programmation aux petits oignons démontrant toute la versatilité du piano : Francoiz Breut (épaulée par Marc Melià) nous donne un aperçu de son album Flux flou de la foule tandis qu’Etienne Jaumet et Fabrizio Rat associent piano et synthétiseur dans un grand délire expérimental, que Sofiane Pamart nous plonge dans l’ambiance de son très bel album Planet Gold, qu’Alexandre Kantorow nous berce avec les musiques de Camille Saint-Saëns et de Franz Liszt et que Macha Gharibian interprète son dernier disque Joy Ascension avec la complicité d’un contrebassiste. Le Piano Day d’ARTE Concert 2021 c’est donc cinq concerts, huit artistes et autant d’univers différents. C’est fou tout ce que l’on peut faire de beau en pianotant en rythme sur de petites touches blanches et de petites touches noires ! Mixé aux légendaires studios Abbey Road de Londres, le disque accompagne, quelques mois plus tard, les astronautes de la navette Soyouz TM-7 en mission dans l’espace. Ses morceaux chantés en anglais naviguent en effet entre soul, hip-hop et electro. Des couleurs riches, influencées autant par Frank Ocean qu’Otis Redding. Ajoutez à ceci des collaborations avec des artistes tels que Charles X et l’illusion est parfaite ! Comme quoi la musique ne connait vraiment pas de frontière. Si Jon Onj se définit comme un artiste « soulwave », c’est parce que sa musique est sur le fil : à la fois dansante et mélancolique. Un esprit que l’on retrouve tout à fait dans le clip de « EFO » où l’artiste déroule pendant quatre minutes des tranches de vies mettant en avant ses amis et ses proches dans des bars, en vacances, lors de concerts, en famille… Une mosaïque de scène heureuses et banales, malheureusement rendues anachroniques par la crise sanitaire actuelle. En attendant de pouvoir revivre tout ceci en vrai, c’est donc au Petit Bain que nous retrouvons Jon Onj pour un Open Stage de toute beauté. Concert enregistré le 18 mars 2021 au Petit Bain, Paris. ---------------------------------------------------------- Jon Onj ist zwar Franzose, doch seine Musik klingt, als käme sie direkt aus den USA. Seine auf Englisch gesungenen Stücke bewegen sich zwischen Soul, Hip-Hop und Electro. In vielschichtigen Klangfarben finden sich unterschiedliche Einflüsse wie Frank Ocean, SBTRKT oder Otis Redding. Wenn man dann noch Collaborations mit Künstlern wie Charles X hinzunimmt, ist die US-amerikanische Illusion perfekt. Musik kennt eben keine Grenzen. Jon Onj bezeichnet seine Musik als Soulwave. Vielleicht auch deswegen, weil sich seine Songs stets an der Grenze zwischen Tanzbarkeit und Melancholie bewegen. Diese Stimmung findet sich auch im Clip zu „EFO“ wieder, in dem der Künstler vier Minuten lang seine Freund*innen und Verwandten in Bars, in den Ferien, auf Konzerten oder im Familienkreis zeigt. Ein Mosaik aus glücklichen und banalen Momenten, die in der aktuellen Situation leider wie aus der Zeit gefallen wirken.
